Annotation
The opening concert of the autumn series of Baroque Soirées takes the audience into the salons of Paris, among Telemann’s friends and colleagues. From his early years, Georg Philipp Telemann’s musical compositions were heavily inspired by French music. His familiarity with the works of Jean-Baptiste Lully and André Campra significantly influenced his concertante and orchestral pieces. Already a respected director of music in the Hanseatic city of Hamburg, he went to Paris at the turn of 1737 and 1738 at the invitation of the best local musicians. The programme of the concert includes musical compositions of these Telemann’s contemporaries, who invited him to perform his famous Parisian quartets with them. The virtuoso performance of the Collegium Marianum ensemble under the direction of Jana Semerádová will feature works of Michel Blavet and Antoine Forqueray in addition to the aforementioned Telemann’s quartets.
